Biography

Chloe Chua was born in Singapore, in 1998. At age 3, she started her dance journey at Attitude Performing Arts Studio, under the tutelage of Donato C. Ferrer. She went on to pursue her passion for dance at School of The Arts, Singapore (SOTA) from 2011 to 2016, and graduated as one of the top scorers in the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme.

Currently, Chloe is attending the Boston Conservatory at Berklee under merit scholarship, and will earn her undergraduate degree in the spring of 2021. She has worked with dance faculty members such as Marcus Schulkind, Ruka White, Kurt Douglas, Danielle Davidson and Daniel Pelzig, among other acclaimed faculty. To enrich her dance education, Chloe has attended dance intensives at The Juilliard School (2016), Batsheva Dance Company (2017/2018) and Nuova Officina Della Danza Summer Program (2019). She is privileged to have had the opportunity to work with esteemed choreographers such as Iratxa Ansa, Catherine Coury, Loni Landon, Joe Chvala, Margo Sappington and Silvia Yong, and to study the repertoire and works of Batsheva Dance Company and Martha Graham Dance Company.

In an environment where interdisciplinary possibilities are endless, Chloe enjoys using this to her advantage by building connections and collaborating with artists from other art forms.

Apart from dancing, Chloe finds great joy being able to share her love for dance with the less fortunate and the elderly. In 2015, she went to Cambodia as part of her school’s community outreach program. She spent 2 weeks teaching dance to the disadvantaged children in the orphanage. Despite a clear language barrier between the children and her, Chloe realized the power of dance being a universal language. Chloe is also a Movement Matters leader at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she teaches the elderly light movement therapy classes to aid and support the intellectual, emotional, and motor functions of their body.

From teaching others, she has gained immense perspective on the values of time management, adaptability, perseverance, sensitivity, and empathy. She is grateful that she has been given numerous opportunities to cater to others, and be continuously challenged and pushed out of her comfort zone. Chloe strongly believes that as much as she teaches, she learns so much more from her students – a gratifying experience and reminder of why she loves her craft.
